About Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment which is used to ease pain for a variety of medical conditions, arthritis, neck ache and back pain. It includes a range of gentle manual techniques including stretching, manipulation and soft tissue. Osteopathy aims to increase mobility to spinal and peripheral joints, increases blood supply to tissues and relieves muscle tension. All of this helps reduce the body's inflammatory responses and reduces the pain. There are additional techniques which can prevent symptoms including posture modification, lifestyle chances and recommended exercises which we can discuss in detail at your appointment.

What's included in your consultation?

Your first consultation will last approximately 30 minutes. We will discuss your medical details and history to determine your symptoms and health. It also gives the practitioner more information as to whether a GP referral is appropriate. Your relevant joints will be examined and treatment will be included in your first session. Treatment should never be painful - it's main aim is to reduce muscle spasm, inflammation and pain. The most commonly used techniques are:

• Articulation - A series of gentle joint movements
• Soft Tissue - Light to firm pressure applied on muscles
• Manipulation - Often accompanied by a clicking sound (we only use this technique if the patient is happy!)
